Selfness & Otherness:
Sofia Ciente a.k.a. Autosofiaciente (1983, Lisbon - Portugal) has, over the course of her life, developed a feeling about the world which reflects the hard acceptance of a reality where its sensorial perception can only come through one's own eyes and body: a single view point that can lead to isolation and lack of understanding if a sense of humility is not developed.
By making use of multiple techniques which range from theater (make-up, costume and scene design) to photography - although with the prevalence of drawing and illustration - Sofia wishes to not only dwell in the depths of our fights and attempts to merge with others, but also in what shields us and keep us apart. In this context, drawing has become her unifying medium by which all these artistic expressions touch and by which both societal and individual relationships are explored, as well as how we construct and continuously change society.
Empathy, self-reflection and identification have been used as direct links to the imagery of the body and its (our) blending points.
